Modern research also underlines the fact that it's a self-transformation tool As we are all gearing up to the International Yoga Day, traditional Indian schools are now keen on making the world understand the term yoga in its true sense. The day marks massive global celebrations with spontaneous public response. Even as yoga is becoming popular as a form of exercise, traditional yoga gurus now emphasise reintroducing the term as a spiritual and meditative practice. Modern research is also exploring yoga as a tool for global peace and self-transformation.  YOGA: EPISTEMIC EXPLANATIONS  > Explaining the original meaning of the term yoga, Dr H R Nagendra, ...

Father his instructor at IMA, Subedar Major's son first officer in family It was awkward at first to get scolded by his father, an instructor at the Indian Military Academy  (IMA), in front of his batch mates for 25-year-old Gagan Jot Singh from Ambala, Haryana.  But the newly-commissioned officer said he eventually made his peace with dynamics at the academy. On 10th June 2023, Saturday,  he became the first Army Officer in his family, thanks in large part to his dad, Subedar Major Gurudev Singh, 51. Gurudev Singh was one of the instructors for his son's batch at IMA. As luck would have it, he joined the academy a year ago - at the same time that his son came to the IMA to train to become an Army officer. In a career spanning 31 years, he had postings elsewhere for 30 years. Talk of sheer serendipity. "My father had never scolded me at home but did so when I failed to follow instructions properly at the academy. It was somewhat shocking at first but I adjuste...

THE IMPHAL QUESTION

Image
THE IMPHAL QUESTION  As violence continues, GoI needs to seriously review the functioning of Manipur's administration & police  The gruesome case of arson that saw an ambulance being torched in front of police personnel, burning alive a seven-year-old boy, his mother and relative on the outskirts of Imphal, probably indicates a near-total collapse of Manipur's law and order machinery. The boy, who had been staying at an Assam Rifles relief camp that hosted members of the Kuki community, was earlier injured in firing by miscreants. It was while taking him to hospital that the ambulance - under escort of Manipur police - was waylaid by a mob, allegedly from the Meitei community. The ongoing turmoil in Manipur is chock-full with such incidents, where the state police has simply melted away. The recent attack on Congress MLA Ranjit Singh's residence by suspected Kuki insurgents and the torching of 32 houses of the Kuki-inhabited Natyang village happened despite ...
